Why Your Fish And Chips Takeaway Will Cost You More Each Week

Why Your Fish And Chips Takeaway Will Cost You More Each Week

This Good Friday, we’re looking at our favourite fish and chips dishes

After all, eating fish and chips on the holiday is a tradition for many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in Canada.

We all know that cooking a healthy fish batter recipe at home is the cost-effective alternative to an expensive carry out meal, but did you know just how much of an extra battering your wallet will now take each week on a fish and chip takeaway across Canada?

By working out how much more it will now cost you to get your fish fix from a takeaway, we can reveal exactly why your fish and chips will cost more this Good Friday. That’s why we’ve carefully selected our favourite fish and chips recipes for that fish and chips experience at home.

Why fish and chips takeaways are getting more expensive

With booming vegetable oil prices hitting rising food inflation, your favourite fish n chips takeaway will now cost you even more than before.

Data carefully gathered by Chefs Plate can now reveal that haddock & Chips in one of the top-rated fish & chip shops in Toronto has increased by 25% since March 2019.

By fishing out this data, we used the price increases to work out how much more your weekly fish and chips takeaway could have cost you over the last two years.

So, how did we do it?

By using the Wayback Machine tool, we looked at how the cost of takeaway fish and chips has been rising since 2020 to 2022 at the top-rated TripAdvisor takeaways in cities across Canada.
If you live on the West Coast, you’ll end up paying the highest price - with an extra $116.90 coming out of your pocket for your weekly takeaway fish dish.
Fish and chips coming from the inland or the coastal areas will still cost you, with either $89.96 or $82.11 leaving you out of pocket.
East Coaster? Prepare to still see an extra $47.32 swim out to sea from your savings each year.
